Flying over the dragon kingdom and landing at Paro international airport that is in the magnificent valley and home to monasteries and temples, Chomolhari and Jitchu Drake peak. Then you will be welcomed upon your arrival.
On the 2nd day a short hike up to Taktsang monastery – a Buddhist monastery in the valley. It is also known as the Tiger’s Nest. This magical monastery is on the granite cliff above the valley. Legend has it that Guru Padmasambhava flew to this spot on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave during the 8th century. When the Guru finished his meditation, he instructed that the monastery is built. Then we move to Paro Dzong, a large Buddhist fortress. On the hill stands an ancient watchtower called Ta Dzong (Bhutan national museum). There you can see antique thangkas, textiles, weapons, historic artifacts etc. Here you can also learn about Bhutan’s history. After this hike, we drive following the Pachu River and staying overnight at Thimphu.
In the morning, we move for full day sightseeing tour in Thimphu starting sightseeing tour with a visit to National Memorial Chorten and then continue the visit to 12th-century Changangkha Temple and Drubthob monastery. You can also visit the Rinpung Dzong, meaning ‘fortress of the heap of jewels’ to see the painting of the great saint Milarepa, considered as the master of meditation by the Bhutanese and believed to have attained enlightenment in a lifetime.
Drive to Wangdue. The town of Punakha was relocated recently to Khuruthang from its location near Punakha Dzong. Punakha was former winter capital of Bhutan, the tradition that is still kept by the monastic body, who moves their capital to Thimphu in the summer and return to Punakha Dzong in the winter. It is around half hour drive between Punakha and Wangdue Phodrang. Then drive back to Thimphu for our overnight stay.
Drive to Paro after sightseeing in Punakha(Bhutan’s best agricultural region) that was capital until 1955. There you can visit KhamsumYuele, Namgyal Chorten, built by the Royal family. You can also visit Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 by the Shabdrung, the ‘Unifier of Bhutan’ as predicted by the great Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Punakha Dzong is architecture with four intricately embossed entrance pillars crafted from cypress and decorated in gold and silver.
Sightseeing in Paro. You can visit the Rinpung Dzong, meaning ‘fortress of the heap of jewels’ to see the painting of the great saint Milarepa, master of meditation. Then visit Takin Sanctuary and Zilukha Nunnery.
