Day 1: Fly to Lhasa (3660m)
Upon your arrival at Gonggar Airport, your Tibetan guide will meet, greet and welcome you and transfer you to Lhasa "Capital of Tibet"(3650 meters). It takes around 45 minutes to reach the old city. After checking in at your hotel, you can rest relax and can acclimatize with the surrounding environment. Drink plenty of fluids and let your body get used to Lhasa’s high altitude. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Lhasa (3660m)
After breakfast, our Tibetan guide will brief you about the day’s program. You will be taken to Sera Monastery, Norbulingka and the Barkhor Square. At Sera Monastery, you will get an insight into the important aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. You pay a visit to Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Completed in 1956, the handsome building is ornately decorated with Tibetan carvings and paintings. Jokhang Temple provides yet another glimpse of the rich Tibetan cultural heritage. You will also get the chance to stroll around the busy Barkhor Square, the nerve centre of Lhasa. After the day’s tour, you will be escorted back to your hotel. Overnight in Lhasa.
Day 3: Sightseeing in Lhasa (3660m)
After having an early breakfast, you will be escorted by your guide to the majestic Potala Palace. The imposing structure of the palace dominates the landscape of Lhasa. As you are guided through the ancient chambers of the palace, you get to see Tibetan art at its best. The Potala Palace has a vast array of intricate Tibetan murals and beautiful statues. You will also get to view the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Later in the day you will visit the beautifully landscaped Drepung Monastery where you can observe nuns and monks chanting and performing religious discourses. After the day’s tour is over, you are escorted back to your hotel for a well- earned rest. Overnight in Lhasa.
Note: Only a limited number of visitors are allowed inside the Potala Palace every day. So the order of sightseeing places will be decided upon by your guide.
Day 4: Drive to Shigatse (3900m)
Drive duration: 5 hours
Have your breakfast in the morning and today, you will take a 250 km drive and arrive at Shigatse (3900m), the second largest Tibetan city. The main attraction in Shigatse is the Tashilhunpo Monastery. Tashilhunpo is one of the 6 main monasteries of the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Tashilhunpo Monastery is the home monastery of the line of Panchen Lamas, the most influential line of lama’s in Tibet after the Dalai Lama. The tombs of the 5th through the 10th Panchen Lama’s are found within the huge monastery. Tashilhunpo is a major pilgrimage destination for Tibetans from across the plateau. The monastery sees the most pilgrims during New Year time, though there are usually at least a few hundred here each day throughout the rest of the year. Nearby to Tashilhunpo Monastery is the newly rebuilt Shigatse Dzong. The Walking Street, a few hundred meters before Tashilhunpo Monastery, is filled with souvenir shops, restaurants and tea houses. Overnight in Shigatse.
Day 5: Shigatse to Namtso Lake (4718m) Bali Village/Droja Monastery
Have your breakfast in the morning and start heading towards Shigatse and start driving to Nam Tso, the largest lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. You will be trekking around Namtso Lake -DrojaMonastery/Buguzari/Ampa Komlong Island. After visiting these places, enjoy the caves in Buguzari, where many animals, plants and special letter-shaped patterns can be seen. Explore the surroundings and get back to your tent. Overnight at a camp.
Day 6: Drive back to Shigatse
After your breakfast you will drive back to Shigatse. Shigatse is the second largest town in Tibet and the capital of Tsang, lying 354 Kms and west of Lhasa at an altitude of 3810 m. You can rest for the remaining time or you can stroll around the surroundings and explore the nearby places. Overnight in Shigatse.
Day 7: Drive to Lhatse (4050m)
Drive duration: 3 hours
Today after having breakfast in the hotel, you will commence your drive to Lhatse. It will take around 2 to 3 hours to reach Lhatse. The drive passes through the Gyatso la pass (5220m) and the scenery which you pass through is extraordinarily beautiful. As you arrive in your hotel in Lhatse, you will have your lunch and can relax for the remaining times. Overnight in Lhatse.
Day 8: Drive to Zhangmu (3600m)
Drive duration: 8 hours
After breakfast in your hotel in Lhatse, you will commence your drive to Zhangmu. On the way you can view the Jugal Himal. A continued drive with the outstanding view of Mt. Xixapangma (8013m highest in Tibet) Mt. Makalu (8464m), Mt. Lhotse (8516m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m) and Mt.Everest (8848m) force you to feel like you are in Paradise. Overnight in Zhangmu.
Day 9: Drive to Kathmandu via Kodari
Drive duration: 5/6 hours
This morning, after having your breakfast in Kodari, you will commence your drive to Kathmandu by surface via Kodari (Nepal-Tibet border), through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. After finishing immigration formalities in Kodari, you will continue driving towards Kathmandu, which will take you around 5 to 6 hours to reach to Kathmandu.
