Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia. Located in the Eastern Himalayas, it is bordered by Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the north and west whereas India surrounds the nation in the south and east direction. Bhutan is geopolitically in South Asia and is the region's second least populous nation after the Maldives. Thimphu is its capital and largest city, while Phuntsholing is its financial center.
The country currently has no UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but it has eight declared tentative sites for UNESCO inclusion since 2012. These sites include Ancient Ruin of Drukgyel Dzong, Bumdelling Wildlife Sanctuary, Dzongs: the centre of temporal and religious authorities (Punakha Dzong, Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, Paro Dzong, Trongsa Dzong and Dagana Dzong), Jigme Dorji National Park, Royal Manas National Park (RMNP), Sacred Sites associated with Phajo Drugom Zhigpo and his descendants, Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS), and Tamzhing Monastery. Bhutan also has numerous tourist sites that are not included in its UNESCO tentative list. Bhutan has one element, the Mask dance of the drums from Drametse, registered in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List
This itinerary is a guideline only and we will follow the itinerary as far as possible but due to weather conditions, health conditions, natural disasters and other unfavorable phenomenon your guide might decide to amend or cancel the itinerary for your own safety. Arrival in Paro international airport by flight. You will be received by our office representative and you will be transferred to Thimphu by a private vehicle. From Paro, you can have the spectacular view of the Everest, Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks, along with the awesome view of sacred Chomolhari and Jichu Drakey of Bhutan. One can also wander on own to stroll Thimphu streets or relax in your hotel. Overnight in Thimpu.
After breakfast, visit the market opened for 4 days in a week (on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday), Handmade paper Mill, School of Arts and crafts where students learn 13 different arts used predominantly in Bhutan, Lunch will be in town. Drive pass by Memorial Chorten (temple) built in memory of the late 3rd King. Visit Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the valley, an enclosure where the national animal, Takin are kept and Zilukha Nunnery. Overnight in Thimpu.
After breakfast, drive through Dochula pass at 3050m. When the weather is clear one can enjoy the spectacular view of the highest mountains of Bhutan at a sight that stretches almost 180 degrees. After a short tea break, we continue to sub-tropical Punakha. In the afternoon, visit nunnery and walk down to your hotel. Overnight in Punakha.
After breakfast, you will visit most beautiful Punakha Dzong (fortress). The dzong highlights the finest examples of arts and architecture of Bhutan. Today, hike to Khamsum Yulay will start from the foot of the Dzong, through the old palace of the late 3rd king of Bhutan. The entire hike will take about 3 hours. Picnic lunch will be served on the way. This is a good day for white water rafting in the afternoon or visit to the farmhouse. Overnight in Punakha.
After breakfast, check-out from hotel and hike to Rinchengang village which is one of the most clustered houses built in Bhutan. You can meet the locals, kids and see their farmhouses. In the evening, you will do 2 hours hike from Trongsa viewpoint to the Dzong before concluding our day. If you still have some time remaining, you will visit Trongsa Dzong, after completing your sight seen get back to your hotel and have rest. Overnight in Trongsa.
After breakfast, visit Trongsa Dzong and Trongsa Museum before proceeding to Tang, Bumthang. On the way, you will stop at weaving center, which is famous in the region. Today, you will visit Tang, Tang is quite remote and festivals celebrated here are very interesting. One of the most important festivals is Tang Namkha Lhakhang Rabney, which is a three-day annual festival. It is celebrated every December memorizing the founding of the Namkha Lhakhang by Lama Namkha Samdrup. It is also performed for the peace and prosperity of the community. Today, you will spend a night in a simple guest house in Jakar which is also a museum of the region. Overnight in Jakar.
After breakfast, you will visit Jampay Lakhang, the first 2 Buddhist temples built in the country. This is also the home of annually performed naked dance which is still in Practice. You will also visit Kurjey temple, where Bhutan's Royals are cremated. You can either walk to cross the suspension bridge and visit the village of Parar and Tamshing or drive there. Conclude your day with a walk passing by the Swiss farm. In the Evening, leisure walks in Jakar town and experience some local pancakes and noodles. Overnight in Jakar.
After breakfast, be ready for an excursion drive to the village of Ura. The drive goes through the highest road pass on your trip at Shertang La at 3573m. Bhutan's highest mountain Gangkar Puensum (7540m) can be seen dominating the northern valley on a clear day. Visit the Ura village and return back to the hotel. Overnight in Jakar.
Have your breakfast in the morning and get ready to head towards Phobjikha Retrace and enjoy the drive back to the valley of the Black-necked Crane. Black-necked crane is one of the rare species of bird in the world, which migrates from Tibetan plateau to Bhutan in winters. On arrival at Gangtey visit Gangtey Gompa, the largest and the only monastery of the Nyingmapa sect in western Bhutan. Overnight in Phobjikha.
After breakfast, visit Phobjikha. The valley of Phobjikha is full of hikes. Phobjikha Natural Trail takes about 2 hours walk through crane feeding areas and gives wonderful opportunity to observe cranes in very close distance for winter visitors. Walk around the village to meet locals and taking pictures of the moment give us perfect knowledge about the Bhutanese rural life. There are many such hiking trails in and around Phobjikha valley. Overnight in Phobjikha.
After breakfast, commence the drive back to Paro. In Paro visit the National Museum, the first of its kind which has a collection from natural history to religious paintings. Visit 17th century's Paro Dzong (Fortress) on foot and continue walking through the oldest but still in use wooden bridge. In the Evening, you can have leisure walk to old Paro town and can visit some local handicrafts stores. One can also try the local restaurants for dinner. Overnight in Paro.
After having breakfast, Visit Kichu Lhakhang, one among the 2 oldest temples in the country, historic Drukgyal Dzong (Fortress) and hike to Tiger's Nest, the most important temple in the country that literally hangs on a granite cliff overlooking the Paro Valley. Later in the evening, you can stroll around the local street of Paro. Overnight in Paro.
Have your breakfast in the morning and later on our office representative will come to the hotel and you will be transferred to the airport for your departure regarding your flight time. Have a safe journey onwards.
