After breakfast drive to Punakha (4298 ft.), On the way Stop at Dochu-La-Pass (3150 mts) to view the higher Himalayas. Arrivals at Punakha check in at hotel. After noon visit Punakha Dzong – built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. For many years until the time of the second king, it served as the seat of the Government. The Dzong was named Druk Pungtang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness).
Punakha is still the winter residence of Je-Khenpo and King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck convened the first National Assembly here in 1952, and visit Punakha Suspension Bridge .After that take a short and easy hike to visit the Chhimi Lhakhang – The Temple, also known as “The Temple of Fertility” was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, “The Devine Mad Man”. After early breakfast drive to Tongsa, Stop at the pass called Pela -3350 m & Chendji chorten/Stupa. Trongsa Dzong: Built in 1648, it was the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Both the first and second kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this ancient seat. All four kings were invested as Trongsa Penlop (“governor”) prior to ascending the throne. The dzong is a massive structure with many levels, sloping down the contours of the ridge on which it is built.
Because of the dzong’s highly strategic position, on the only connecting route between east and west, the Trongsa Penlop was able to control effectively the whole of the central and eastern regions of the country from here. Ta Dzong/ Tongsa Museum: This watchtower, which once guarded Trongsa Dzong from internal rebellion, stands on a promontory above the town. Later in the afternoon drive to Bumthang.

Today after breakfast in the hotel we will go for Bumthang Sightseeing. We take a visit to Tamshing & Kunchusom monastery and a further 30 minutes to Kurjey Lhakhang. This Lhakhang is a complex of three temples, on the right beneath a giant cypress tree; Minjur Tempa, Trongsa Penlop, built the main temple in 1652. This temple houses the cave where Guru Rimpoche had meditated and left his body imprint. The First King of Bhutan built the middle temple during his tenure as Trongsa Penlop in 1900.
The third temple is recently constructed under patronage of Her Majesty queen mother Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuk and is located opposite Kurjey Lhakhang(8th century monastery) on the other side of the river. After the breakfast, drive to birds migrating from Tibet. Tongsa-Gantay goenpa, Phobjikha valley- Valley of black Necked Cranes: this is the winter home. Nature Trail ( it’s a beautiful and easy walk of 1.30 hours casually in this wide marshy valley. It is the winter home to endangered bird called black-necked crane migrating from Tibet. Usually, by 1st week of Nov, they land in the valley. They leave by March back to Tibet. This pleasurable walk will give you a nice feeling for Phobjikha valley and Visit Black necked crane information center.

After breakfast, drive to Paro and in the afternoon visit Paro Dzong and the National Museum above it. Paro Dzong is one of Bhutan’s most impressive, and the finest example of Bhutanese architecture you will see. The inward sloping walls form a massive structure that towers over the town. Built in the 17th century it was one of Bhutan’s strongest and most important fortresses and it was used on several occasions to defend the Paro Valley from invasions by Tibet. Take a day walk to the ‘Tiger’s Nest’, the sacred Taktshang monastery which clings to the rock face 900 metres above the valley floor. Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to the site riding on a tigress. He subsequently meditated here for three months. It is one of Bhutan’s most holy sites and draws pilgrims not only from Bhutan but also from neighbouring Buddhist countries. You can have lunch at the Taktshang cafeteria from where you get a spectacular view of the monastery.
