Near the valley, you will see the devastation caused in 1998 when the wall of Sabaitsho, a glacial lake, broke and flooded the valley. We will also catch our first glimpses of Mera from the south, with all three peaks visible. You will walk for some minutes to a pleasant grassy field, which is today’s campsite.

Today you will also enjoy the view of Mera Peak, initially at the confluence of the Sanu Drangka above Kote. If the weather is clear, you can see the beautiful south face of Mera Peak. Now, this is time for your final approach to Tagnag. You are now among the mountains, and you will start preparing for your climb.

Day 13Trek to Mera Base Camp (5000m), (3-4 hours)

Have your breakfast in the morning, and today you will have to climb steadily out of the valley and up lateral moraine and grassy culverts to the last camp below the snowline. Day 14 - 16Summit Attempt on Mera (6476m), (5-9 hours)

Prepare for three challenging days ahead as you ascend to the rock and glaciated camp near Mera La saddle at approx. 5400 m/17712 ft. Wear plastic mountaineering boots for warmth, protection, and stability on varied terrain. Another camp awaits halfway up the long North Slope of the mountain at about 5700 m (18696 ft) near a rock knob.

Your summit bid begins early in the morning from this high camp, lasting 4 to 6 hours. Rope up for safety due to crevasse hazards. Day 17-18Trekking towards the Honku Valley (4900m), (5-7 hours)

You will need to make a relatively early start today. Once our porters are organized, you will commence the most remote stages of the expedition. You descend into the Honku Valley, near five large glacial lakes that sprawl out before us. They are known as Panch Pokhari (five lakes). The Amphu Lapcha pass is situated immediately at the head of the valley to our right and is the low point on the ridge between the Honku and the Imja valleys. For this day or so, you are in Honku. A new vista of peaks spans out before us, including Amadablam to the distant west and many unnamed peaks. The camp is set close to the rocks that lead up to the pass.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in a camp at Honku Valley.

Day 19Rest day at Amphu Laptsa Base Camp

Today serves as a rest day, allowing you time for final preparations and gear checks before crossing the Amphu Lapcha pass tomorrow. Ensure you get ample physical rest today, as tomorrow’s climb will be challenging. If you wish to explore the surroundings, take care not to overexert yourself.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in a camp at Amphu Lapcha Base Camp.

Day 20-21Trek from Amphu Laptsa (5100m) to Island Peak Base Camp (5845m), (8-9 hours)

After an early breakfast, we set off on an alpine journey to cross the pass. Transporting all of our equipment, crew, porters, and team members takes time. The climb from Hinku to the pass appears simple, but it is not without difficulties. The eastern and southern slopes are rocky and sun-exposed, while the northern side has steep snow slopes. We proceed cautiously, using fixed ropes to descend to the snow lakes and moraine valleys below. The pass provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Khumbu peaks. Take a moment during the ascent and descent to appreciate the region’s breathtaking scenery.
