Tour Details

The Langtang Valley, also known as the “Valley of Glaciers,” offers an abundance of wildlife experiences and rich cultural and historical importance. The highest elevation point in the Langtang Valley Trek is 3,800m above sea level. Couple this with picturesque scenery such as pine forests, swift mountain streams, rugged rocks, and mountains rising; it is bound to be a unique experience. During this Langtang Valley trek, you will understand the history of Tibetan ancestry and their way of life, agriculture, and trade.

You can enjoy not only the colorful dresses of the people but also the blooming rhododendron forests, birds, and butterflies. The weather in the Himalayas is always unpredictable, especially in the upper reaches. Therefore, it is essential to pack all the necessary equipment while trekking in the Langtang Valley.

Day 2Kathmandu to Gatlang via Syabrubeshi (8-9-hour drive)

The Langtang Valley Trek begins with an 8–9-hour drive from Kathmandu to Gatlang. Along the way, you’ll pass over ridges, revealing stunning views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Annapurna. The journey follows the Trishuli River, despite the rough road filled with potholes. Eventually, you’ll reach Dhunche, the administrative center of Rasuwa District. Don’t forget to have your TIMS card and National Park Permit handy, which are required at the Park Gate near Dhunche.

After descending for about an hour from Dhunche, you’ll reach Syabru Besi, following the Trishuli River and navigating bumpy roads. The trek then enters Langtang National Park, where you’ll notice the remote, high-altitude settlements. Surrounded by terraced hills, Gatlang, located in the Tamang settlement area, welcomes you with friendly locals and warm hospitality. This trek offers not only natural beauty but also a glimpse into the rich culture of the region.

Includes: breakfast and an overnight stay in a local lodge.

Day 3Gatlang to Nagthali (3,165m) (6-7-hour hike)

Following the trail to Nagthali, we leave Chilime. Along the path, we pass by a dense forest and might encounter the Nepal Gray Langur Monkeys. After walking for some time, we reach open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas, such as the Ganesh Himal, the Langtang Range, and the Sanjen Ranges. After passing this grassland, we will reach Nagthali. Nagthali was once used as a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests.

Includes: an overnight stay in a local lodge.

Day 4Nagthali to Briddhim via Thuman (2,338m) (6-7-hour hike)

We start the day with a descending walk for about an hour to reach Thuman. Thuman is one of the Tamang villages that is heavily influenced by Tibetan culture. The people are friendly and love to sing and dance.

Later on, we continue walking through rhododendron forests and meadows towards Briddhim, another Tibetan-influenced Tamang community on the lap of Langtang Himal. The trail to Briddhim in springtime is beautiful as the whole rhododendron forest blooms. In Briddhim, we enjoy the traditional local cuisines and take part in cultural practices.

Day 5Briddhim to Sherpa Gaun (5-6-hour hike)

The trail today ascends to Khanjum village, and passing through the Chortens, Mani walls, and prayer flags along the way, we make our way up further to Sherpa Gaun. We get an amazing view of the Langtang Ranges from Sherpa Gaun, where we are welcomed by the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people.

Includes: an overnight stay in a local lodge.

Day 6Sherpa Gaun to Langtang Village (6-7-hour hike)

Today is a strenuous day, as we have to climb about 1000 meters. We start by climbing up a steep forest slope to the Langtang River. After ascending for some time, we cross a stream and climb past several water-driven prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang. Langtang is one of the oldest villages along this trekking route, and the view from here is more spectacular as we get closer to the mountains.

Includes: an overnight stay in a local lodge.

Day 7Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa (3-4-hour hike)

As you trek towards Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll be treated to a spectacular view of Langtang Lirung. From there, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the mountains, glaciers, and Langtang Valley. Tserko RI is the highest point of the trek, reaching 5,000m above sea level. I have just completed the Langtang Heritage Trek with three fellow Canadians, supported and led by Asian Heritage Trekking and travel. I would give this company an 11 out of 10 for their sheer dedication to helping us complete this track. All of the staff went out of their way to make sure that this trek was as safe and wonderful as possible for each of us. When one of our members became ill prior to our departure, the head of Asian Heritage personally drove him to the hospital and visited him while he was there. Our guide, Rohit proved an excellent leader, who imparted his vast knowledge of the region with enthusiasm and passion. Our two porters amazed us with their strength and agility as they each carried 20 to 25 kg of our gear up very very steep trails. The organization, transportation, and execution of this 10 day adventure was absolutely first class and I would highly recommend Asian heritage tracking and travel.
