Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake trek takes you to Langtang Valley also known as the “valley of glaciers“. It boasts an abundance of wildlife as well as a vibrant cultural heritage. It’s a pretty special experience that includes beautiful surroundings and a swift mountain. You will learn about the Tibetan people’s history and way of life while on this walk.

Most of the Langtang Valley was damaged in the aftermath of the enormous earthquake in 2015. With a kind smile, they are now making a comeback. You may appreciate the colorful rhododendrons that are in bloom, as well as the wild animals, birds, butterflies, red pandas, etc. The people’s vibrant clothing is also interesting. There are 108 lakes surrounding the sacred place of Gosaikunda Lake. Gosaikunda is a holy site for Hindus and Buddhist pilgrims. The program also covers the Helambu region. How to go for Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake trek

The Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek is an incredible journey commencing in Kathmandu, venturing through Langtang National Park. After an 8-9 hour drive to Syabru Besi, the trail unfolds, granting panoramic vistas of the Annapurna and Langtang Mountain Ranges. The trek weaves through lush forests, immersing hikers in Tamang culture in villages like Chilime and Thuman. Spring adorns the path with rhododendron blooms. Lama Hotel and Langtang Village offer cultural experiences and Himalayan views. Kyanjin Gompa is a highlight, offering Yak cheese and curd. A side trip to Tserko Ri provides stunning Himalayan views. The journey proceeds to Gosaikunda, a sacred site, and descends through rocky terrain and rhododendron forests, offering cultural insights into Ghopte and Melamchi Gaon. The trek concludes with a return to Kathmandu from Thimbu, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and spiritual experiences in the Langtang region.

Best Time for Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek 

The best seasons for this hike are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). In the spring, the shade increases, the national flower of Nepal, the rhododendron, is in full bloom, and in the fall, the sky is almost blue and clear.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal

As you arrive, Asian Heritage Treks & Travel representative will welcome you at the Airport with your nameplate. Then, you will immediately be transferred to the hotel. On the way to Hotel, you will pass by the Open cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple), Royal Palace Museum i.e. Narayanhity, and Garden Of Dream before you reach Thamel. Your hotel will be downtown at Touristic Hub. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.

Day 2Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley - Kathmandu Durbar square - Swyambhunath Stupa - Pashupatinath temple - Boudhanath Stupa

After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will pick you up for a fascinating day of exploration in Kathmandu. Your first stop will be Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing ancient wood-carved temples and buildings, providing a glimpse into the city’s rich history. From there, you’ll head to Swyambhunath, known as the Monkey Temple, offering panoramic views of Kathmandu. Next, you’ll visit the renowned Pashupatinath Temple, a major pilgrimage site for Hindus in Southeast Asia. Here, you can witness the solemn cremation rituals by the riverside. Nearby, you can also explore Guweyswori Temple. Lastly, you’ll explore the Boudhanath Stupa, a unique Buddhist monument dating back to 600 A.D., and another UNESCO site. After this enriching day of sightseeing, you can return to your hotel for some well-deserved rest..

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Day 3Kathmandu to Syabru Besi (1460m) driving duration: 8-9 hours

Early in the morning, we start our Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek by jeep drive to Syabru Besi. Once we drive out of the Kathmandu Valley, the roads twist and turn along the high hills. The landscape changes radically as well as the lifestyle of the people living along the way. Once you reach the village of Ranipauwa, you can enjoy viewing the Annapurna Mountain range in the west and the Langtang Mountain range in the east. Following the Trishuli River, the road guides you into the Langtang National Park. Here, we shall immediately notify the remoteness of the human settlement of Langtang.

Day 4Syabrybesi to Chilime via Gatlang (2240m) hiking duration: 6-7 hours

Today you will start trekking as we follow the trail around the valley and ascend to a viewpoint. From this viewpoint, you can witness the beautiful views of the Ganesh Himal, Goljang Valley, and the Gosaikunda range. As you descend and walk through the valley of Gatlang, you will pass by a lake and an apple farm. After your arrival in the village of Gatlang, you can have some rest.

Later on, we can explore and experience the Tamang culture. Afterward, descending to Thangbuchet, we reach Chilime village. The village is located next to the Bhotekoshi River. The Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here.

Day 5Chilime to Nagthali (3165m) hiking duration: 6-7 hours

Following the trail to Nagthali, we leave Chilime. Along the path, we pass by a dense forest and might encounter the Nepal Gray Langur Monkeys. After walking for some time, we reach open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas. The ranges such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang Range, and the Sanjen Ranges look stunning. After passing this grassland we will reach Nagthali. Nagthali was once used as a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests.

Day 6Nagthali to Briddhim (2290m) via Thuman (2338m) hiking duration: 6-7 hours

We start the day with a descending walk to Thuman for about an hour. Thuman is one of the Tamang villages heavily influenced by Tibetan culture. The people here are friendly and love to sing and dance. Later on, we continue walking through Rhododendron forests, and meadows towards Briddim. It is another Tibetan village influenced by the Tamang community. The trail to Briddhim in springtime is beautiful due to rhododendron blooms. In Buddhism, enjoy the traditional local cuisines and take part in cultural practices.

Day 7Briddhim to Lama hotel (2324m) hiking duration: 7-8 hours

We start our day a little early as it is a long walk to reach Lama Hotel. Following the path, it takes us through the jungle and passes by small villages in some places. The trail offers a splendid panoramic view of the mountains and the surrounding hills. After hiking for some hours, we reach the Lama Hotel.

Day 8Lama hotel to Langtang village (3430m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Today is a strenuous day as we have to climb about 1000 meters. We start by climbing up a steep forest slope to the Langtang River. Continuing our trail, we reach Ghoda Tabela, which means the Horse Stable. After this, the path is slightly gradual and offers the beautiful sight of grazing Yaks in the valley. After ascending for some time, we cross a stream and climb past several water-driven prayer wheels. Langtang is one of the oldest villages along this trekking route. From Langtang, the view of mountain peaks is spectacular.

Day 9Langtang to Kyanjin Gompa (3820m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Along the path to Kyanjin Gompa, you can see the wonderful view of Langtang Lirung. The trail passes through the largest mani wall, made from stone and with prayers written on them. You also walk past the water mills, chortens, and a sacred pile of rocks with various inscriptions. After crossing some rivers, we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Here, you can test the cheese and curd made from Yak milk. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Day 10explore Kyanjin Gompa (3820m) & Tserko Ri (5000m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Today you will explore and around Kyanjin Gompa. You can also go for a hike to Tserko Ri (5000 m) for magnificent mountain views. As Tserko Ri lies at quite a high altitude, you might feel the thin air. After some wonderful views of the mountains, we return to Kanjin Gompa. In the remaining time, you can stroll around Kanjin Gompa and enjoy the surrounding views. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Day 11explore Langtang Lirung glacier hiking duration: 5-6 hours

From Kanjin Gompa, you will see the Langtang Lirung Glacier looming over the village. The lake is surrounded by the peaks of Langtang Lirung, Changbu, and Langtang Yubra. Today, we shall climb up to get a closer look at this amazing natural site. Following the trail from the monastery, we follow the path leading up toward the glacier. After hiking for an hour, we ascend a steep climb until we reach a plateau. Here, we can admire the amazing view of the bowl-shaped Langtang Valley and the glacier.

Day 12 trek back to Lama hotel hiking duration: 6-7 hours

Today, you have to walk 6 to 7 hours downhill through a dense forest to reach Lama Hotel. You shall walk through the ethnic Tamang settlements. Here, people are influenced by the Tibetan religion and cultural practices.

Day 13Lama hotel to Thulo Syabbru hiking duration: 5-6 hours

After having breakfast, you will start trekking down to Thulo Syabru. The total trek is downhill as you walk through a lush green forest.

Day 14Thulo Syabbry to Lauri Binayak driving duration: 5 hours

Day 15Lauri Binayak to Gosaikunda (4380m) hiking duration: 4-5 hours

The trail from Lauri Binayak to Gosaikunda is very scenic. As we ascend, we shall see the mountains getting closer and the ocean of clouds below. On reaching Buddhist Gompa, the trail is a bit easier with regular ups and downs.

After hiking for some time, we shall get the first glimpse of Saraswati Kunda. It is one of 108 lakes around Gosaikunda. We also explore Bhairav Kunda or Naag Kunda. Later, we shall reach the Gosaikunda village beside the Gosaikunda Lake. Gosaikunda is a holy site for Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims. Hundreds of pilgrims travel here to take a holy bath and worship during the full moon of August.

Day 16Explore Gosaikunda

On the sixteenth day of Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek, you’ll be exploring Gosaikunda Lake. According to the myth, Lord Shiva, the biggest Hindu God, traveled into the Himalayas. Here, he created many lakes by piercing the snow-covered mountainside with his trident. The pure water obtained here was to cure a terrible sickness and quench his thirst. Gosaikunda and Bhairav Kunda are the two most important lakes created by Lord Shiva. Here, visit the temple dedicated to him and explore the lakes around the Gosaikunda.

Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek

Day 17Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3440m) hiking duration: 6-7 hours

As we follow the trail through the northern side of Gosaikunda, we cross glacier moraines. We walk past four small lakes to the Laurebina La (4610m). After some rest at Laurebina la, the trail descends to Phedi and drops down to the stream. Then, we start climbing through the Bamboo forest to reach the top of the hill. Then, we descend through the rocky hill of pine and rhododendron trees to Ghopte.

Day 18Ghopte to Melamchi Gaon (2550m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Today, we will be heading toward Melamchi Gaon. Melamchi is a beautiful village inhabited mainly by the Hyolmo and Sherpa. It lies at the heart of Helambu Valley and is one of the largest settlements in the region. After hiking for some time, we reach the Thadepati village which is a mountain watcher’s paradise. We then descend gradually from Thadepati and reach Melamchi village.

Day 19Melamchi Gaon to Thimbu, drive to Kathmandu

Descending from Melamchi Gaon, we reach Thimphu. From Thimphu, you’ll drive towards Kathmandu.

Day 20Sightseeing tour around Patan and Bhaktapur

Today’s itinerary begins with your guide picking you up and driving you to Patan, one of the ancient cities within the Kathmandu Valley. Your first stop is Patan Durbar Square, where you’ll explore Krishna temples and museums, delving into the city’s rich history and royal heritage. The Golden Temple, a significant attraction for both Hindus and Buddhists, is on the agenda. Afterward, you’ll proceed to Bhaktapur, known for its well-preserved architecture and old-world charm. Here, you can admire intricately carved wooden buildings and visit the grand Nyatapola Temple. You’ll even have the opportunity to take a pottery-making class using traditional methods at Pottery Square. This marks the conclusion of your Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek.
