Nepal has many hidden gems and the Ama Yangri peak trek is known as one of them. Located in the Helambu region of Sindhupalchowk district, it is one of the isolated and less popular but amazing hiking destinations in the Helambu region. Ama Yangri Peak lies at an altitude of 3,771m and is considered to be one of the highest peaks around Kathmandu Valley.
According to the myth, Ama Yangri is considered to be a deity that has turned into the protector of the Helambu region. The Ama Yangri peak can be compared to the Poon Hill of the Annapurna region in terms of views of the mountains. The route is filled with diverse forests, birds, and little beautiful villages. This trek is beautiful to experience both in natural and cultural ways.
Ama Yangri Peak Trek starts from Kathmandu, and we drive for 4 hours to reach Timbu. After we reach Timbu, we hike towards Tarke Ghyang. Tarke Ghyang is a small village situated on the way to our destination. The trek is adventurous as we pass through beautiful villages and landscapes. From Tarke Ghyang, we hike towards our destination, “Ama Yangri” (3,771m). Ama Yangri is also known as Ama Jyomo Yangri. You pass along the dense rhododendron forest and wildlife inhabitants. On the way, you can find many ancient monasteries and Buddhist prayer flags. You can enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayas and the serenity of the place. After some peacetime and observing natural beauty, we head back towards Tarke Ghyang. You’ll trace back your footsteps to Timbu from Tarke Ghyang. From Timbu, we head back to the capital Kathmandu.
The best months to visit are September through mid-December and March through the first week of June. Because of the open skies and the end of the monsoon season, fall is the ideal season.
Foreigners need to get TIMS and Langtang National Park Entrance Permits.

In the morning, our guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Timbu. It is a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu. Upon reaching Timbu, we will start our hiking to Tarke Ghyang. The trails lead us through the dense forest, where you can sight many birds and villages. TarkeGhyang is located just at the foothill of TarkeGhyang.

Ama Yangri also considered a hidden gem in Helambu, is worth visiting the Yangri Peak, locally known as AmaJyomoYangri, and is believed to be Holy Mountain. In ancient times, it is believed that many Buddhist deities meditated inside the cave. Also, many ancient monasteries and sacred caves are found here.

Today, you’ll retrace your way back to Timbu via the same route. From here, our private vehicle will drive you back to Kathmandu and drop you at your hotel.
