Chepang Hill Trek with Chitwan Safari – 13 Days in Nepal is one of the new trekking trails and offers a rare combination of the hidden culture of the ethnic group Chepang people, other local communities who live surrounding the mid-hill region of Nepal, stay in their beautiful homes as guests and share their meals is a journey of discovery in itself. The unique culture in this area, bird watching, and other natural attractions add to the experience. The trail is a pretty remote area that made the trekking trail, it has not yet been highly commercialized, so the trail is less crowded. During the trek, people can spend a night at home with the indigenous Chepang people. This trip will be perfect for those people, who are like soft trekking and want to skip the busy schedule of the city area and walk through lush green hills. The people of Chepang village do not see tourists often and have kind smiles. Travelers also have a chance to explore the Chepang lifestyle.

The Chitwan Chepang Hill Trail begins at Hugdi, between Mugling and Krishna Bhir in Dhading district about 80 km from Kathmandu, and ends in Shaktikhor and Chitwan with Jungle safari.

Hattibang, Siraichuli (one of the highest hills of the Mahabharata range, offers spectacular views of the mountains and magnificent sunrise and sunset views. The view includes a wide range of Himalayan peaks such as Rolwaling, Ghaurisankar, Langtang, Gorkha Himal, Himalchuli, Manaslu, Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and the Royal Chitwan National Park), Jyandala village (Chepang settlement), Chisapanitar (popular bird watching site, more than 250 varieties of bird species are found here), Upper dang Gadi (headquarters of Chitwan till early 1962), Shaktikhor and Chitwan National park (UNESCO World heritage site) are the major attraction point of the trip.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at the airport, an Asian Heritage Treks & Travel representative will greet you, holding your nameplate. From the airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. Along the way, you’ll pass through some important landmarks, including the Pashupatinath Temple, the Royal Palace Museum (also known as Narayanhity Palace), and the Garden of Dreams, before reaching Thamel. Your accommodation is located in this tourist hub. The streets of Thamel offer plenty of opportunities for exploration.

Day 2Sightseeing In Kathmandu (Kathmandu Durbar Square - Swyambhunath Stupa - Pashupatinath Temple - Boudhanath Stupa)

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kathmandu Durbar Square along with the tour guide in a private vehicle. Observe the typical wood-carved temples and buildings reflecting the ancient Kathmandu city.  After that, we will be heading towards Swayambhunath. The Monkey Temple where you can observe the religious harmony and tolerance between the Buddhist religion and Hindu religions along with that enjoy the panoramic view of Kathmandu city. Explore the surroundings and then you will go to visit another UNESCO World Heritage site Boudhanath Stupa. It was built in 600 A.D. and is one of a kind of stupa reflecting Buddhism in the world. Explore the surroundings of Boudhanath Stupa and Visit the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the biggest pilgrimage sites for the Hindu religion people in South Asia. After completing your sightseeing get back to the hotel and rest.

Day 3Sightseeing in Patan and Bhaktapur

Today, you will explore two ancient cities near Kathmandu: Patan and Bhaktapur.

In Patan, your itinerary includes visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Krishna Temple and Patan Durbar Square. Next, explore the Patan Museum to delve deeper into the history of this city and the reign of its kings. Then, proceed to the Golden Temple, a significant attraction for both Hindus and Buddhists, as well as the Banglamukhi Temple.

After visiting Patan you will drive to Bhaktapur; is the city that was the capital of the Greater Malla Kingdom until the 15th century. Bhaktapur is a treasure trove of artistic creations displayed in the temples and monuments of the city. Now this square is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is managed by the Archaeological Department of Nepal and Bhaktapur municipality. There are four different squares; Taumadhi Square, Durbar Square, Pottery Square, and Dattatreya Square.

Day 4Drive from Kathmandu to Hungdi Bazar (Driving Duration: 4/5 hours)

After having your breakfast you will drive to Hungdi. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours, depending on the road conditions. On the way, you can enjoy the greenery around you and the beautiful hills. When you reach Hungdi make a hotel check-in and take a rest Or you can explore the surroundings.

Day 5Hugdi Bazar to  Hattibang (Hiking Duration 5-6 hours)

After having your breakfast you will start your trek from Hugdi bazar towards Hattibang. The trail through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional Chepang settlements. You will get an experience the warm hospitality of the Chepang people and learn about their unique culture.

Day 6Hattibang to Jyandala (Hiking Duration 5-6 hours)

Today you will trek from Hattibang to Jyandala. You can enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges along the way and also explore the remote villages and interact with the local community. After reaching Jyandala you can explore this beautiful village to learn more about the Chepang people and their culture.

Day 7Jyandala to Upper Dangra Gadi (Hiking Duration 5-6 hours)

Start your trek downhill from Jyandala to Siraichuli and continue to Upper Dangra, the highest point of the trek. The fresh wind blowing from the woods will keep you refreshed throughout the trek. From Siraichuli you can have spectacular views of the mountains and magnificent sunrise and sunset views. The view includes a wide range of Himalayan peaks such as Rolwaling, Ghaurisankar, Langtang, Gorkha Himal, Himalchuli, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri range.  Also, you will walk through the popular bird-watching site Chisapanitar; you will enjoy a lot here to observe more than 250 varieties of birds. The dense forest in this region is also the homeland of other wild animals.

Day 8Gadi to Shaktikhor (Hiking Duration 5-6 hours)

Continue your trek descends from Upper Dangra Gadi to Shaktikhor. You will Pass through beautiful forests, terraced fields, and local villages. While you reach Shaktikhor, you can visit the Chepang museum, tourist information center, mysterious caves, and waterfalls nearby.

Day 9Drive to Chitwan (Driving Duration 2-3 hours)

Continuing your trip, you will be heading towards Chitwan, Along the way; you will come across numerous small shops and a mini-market. As you approach Chitwan, you will notice the forest becoming denser along your route. Upon your arrival in Chitwan, check-in at the hotel and take some time to rest. Later, you can explore the local market and streets in the area. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to attend the Tharu cultural program show. Enjoy the program, and after it concludes, return to the hotel.

Day 10Activities in Chitwan

Start your full-day sightseeing tour. You’ll embark on a jungle safari by Jeep. Enter the community forest section to observe the one-horned rhino and various other wild animals like wild boar, deer, and leopard. Afterward, cross the Rapti River to reach the outskirts of the main national park area. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to witness wild elephants and other fascinating creatures. Once you’ve completed your jungle safari, return to the hotel for lunch. Later, take a guided tour of the Tharu village and enjoy a canoeing adventure on the Rapti River. Here, you can observe the Marsh Mugger and Gharial crocodiles resting by the banks of the Rapti River in Chitwan. Return to the hotel to relax after your sightseeing tour.

Day 11Chitwan to Kathmandu (Driving Duration 5-6 hours)

On this day, you will have a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, starting from Chitwan after breakfast. The view of the green hills and snaky rivers, and the fresh wind blowing from the lush hills will keep you thoroughly refreshed throughout the journey. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your respective hotel and have a rest. In the evening, you can stroll around the downtown area of Thamel.

Day 12Kathmandu free day

Today is a free day for you in Kathmandu. You can spend your day on your activities or optional activities. You can have enough rest, or if you’re interested, you can go strolling around the streets of Thamel. Or you can go shopping for souvenirs for your friends and family.

Optional activities you can do in your free day:

  • Everest Mountain flight by airplane (approx. 1 hour).
  • Nepali food cooking workshop (approx. 3 hours).
  • Pottery classes (approx. 30 minutes).
  • Handicraft tour. (Approx. 6 hours).

Day 13Departure

After having a night’s rest in Kathmandu. You will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements and transfer to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport by private transport around three hours before your flight schedule and flight back to your home/other travel destination. Have a safe journey onwards.
