Mt. Kailash Tour: A Spiritual Journey to the Center of the Universe In Tibetan dialects, Mt. Kailash means Khang Rimpoche, which refers to the precious jewel of snow. Mt. Kailash (6,714 m/22,028 ft) is a spectacular mountain of beauty and grace, with four great cardinal faces. The northern face is believed to be gold, western ruby, southern sapphire, and eastern crystal. This mountain is spiritually venerated and circled by thousands of pilgrims every year, but no one has ever attempted the climb.

The Mt. Kailash overland tour takes you to the spiritual center of the Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, and Bon religions. Hindus believe that Mount Kailash is the holy abode of Lord Shiva. Jain calls it the mountain Astapada and believes it is the place of Tishaba. Likewise, Bon calls it the mountain of Tise and believes it is the seat of Sipaimen, the Sky Goddess.

The Mt. Kailash Mansarovar Tour can be conducted via different routes in Nepal, Tibet, and India. The Kailash Mansarovar tour via Kerung is the most accessible travel route. It takes only 14 days to complete the tour. A trip to Mt. Kailash is an exhilarating travel experience into the remote and far-flung part of the windswept country. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package cost includes all the transportation, accommodation, guide, porter, and meal expenses during the tour.

Day 9Mt. Kailash Kora from Darchen Pass, Tarboche Flag Pole, to Drira-Puk (4,765m)

Most of Tibet completes Mt. Kailash Kora in a single day, but for foreigners, it usually takes three days. The Kora trek starts from the charm-free village of Darchen, passing mani walls and skirting the foot of Mt. Kailash. To the left of the Kora trail is the massif of the treeless Barkha Plain, which is dotted with white nomadic tents and herds of sheep and goats.

As we walk beyond the first prostration point, we get a glimpse of the tantalizing south face of Mt. Kailash. We walk across the famous Tarboche flagpole and reach the magical Lha Chu Valley. It is a flat glacial valley receding between the vast, sculpted red towers and huge scree slopes.
We reach our overnight destination (Dira-Puk) by mid-afternoon. Above it is the famous north face of the mountain, some 1,700 m of rock, ice, and snow.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge.

Day 10Kora from Drira-Puk to Zuthul-Puk (4,700m) via Drolma-La Pass

The second part of Mt. Kailash is quite strenuous through high valleys and Shiwa-Tsal Charnel Ground, where pilgrims leave a part of clothing or offer (part of hair, teeth, or blood) to represent their past lives to Dromla-La Pass (5,630m) dotted with prayer flags all over. You can enjoy the view of the stunning Gauri Kund just beneath the Dromla-La Pass.

Accommodation: an overnight stay in an available local lodge.

Day 11Trek to Zutul-Puk Monastery and Return to Darchen, Drive Back to Saga
