Itinerary

Day 1Arrival & Nepali Cuisine Tasting

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, our representative will meet, greet, and welcome you before transferring you to the hotel. You can then relax and enjoy your time at the hotel or take a stroll around the city.

As part of our Nepal Food Tasting Tour: Taste Like a Local, in the evening, our representative will take you to enjoy a traditional Thakali Khana. This meal is an improvised version of dal bhat, the staple food of Nepalis for lunch and dinner. The set may include rice or dhindo, made of buckwheat, which is ideal for diabetics but hard to find in other countries. Gundruk, a spicy dried spinach, is also a part of this dish, exclusively made in Nepal. The set is visually appealing, resembling a rainbow served on your plate.

You can choose either a vegetarian or non-vegetarian option, both offering equally authentic Nepali tastes. These meals typically come with the option to add more rice, lentils, veggies, and pickles. Additionally, many places offer extras such as papad, a thin, disc-shaped, crispy food, or mohi, a thin mixture of yogurt and water. These extras not only enhance the taste but also have dietary and digestive benefits.

Includes: Private Transport, an English-speaking guide, and an overnight accommodation at the Yatri Suites & Spa or a similar hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2Taste the Popular Momo, Roti or Naan and Tandoori Chicken

Our tour guide will pick you up in a private vehicle. Momo is undoubtedly the unofficial national food of Nepal, a type of dumpling filled with either meat or vegetables wrapped in dough. This Nepali delicacy has its own unique identity with exquisite flavors, served in bite-sized portions with a dipping sauce. Momo comes in various shapes, sizes, styles, and even colors.

The most common type is steamed momo, while fried momo, a deep-fried version of the steamed variety, is also popular in the capital. Other variations include kothey-based fried crispy momo, chilly-made momo with a spicy mix of capsicum, onions, and peppers, and jhol-made momo served in flavored soup.

Originally from Tibet, momo (steamed or fried dumplings) has become one of the most beloved snacks in Nepal. Local shops serve the most authentic momo, varying in size depending on price. The accompanying achaar (pickle) adds a delightful taste to the steamed momo.

In recent times, Momo has undergone various modifications, including open Momo, c-momo, tea Momo, and rainbow Momo. In the evening, you can enjoy roti or naan with tandoori chicken, or sekuwa (meat roasted in wood in the traditional Nepalese style).

Includes: Breakfast, Private Transport, an English-speaking guide, and an overnight accommodation at the Yatri Suites & Spa or a similar Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3Taste the Newari Food in Kirtipur and Patan (1-2-hour drive)

In the morning, our guide will pick you up and then drive you to Kirtipur. You’ll have the traditional cuisine of the Newar community. You can also taste the traditional liquor made from rice. Some popular Newari foods are Chatamari, NewariChoila, Kunya, Bara, Gwaramari, and Sukula. Samay Baji is an indispensable Newari set of food items that holds both religious and cultural significance. It includes beaten rice, buffalo meat, fish, soybeans, woh (a patty made of lentils), and alcohol.

Includes: Breakfast, Private Transport, an English-speaking guide, and an overnight accommodation at the Yatri Suites & Spa or a similar Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 4Tibetan food in Bouddhanath and Juju Dhau in Bhaktapur (1-2-hour drive)

Bouddhanath is known as the Tibetan hub of Kathmandu, offering a diverse Tibetan cuisine. This newfound attention is due to the unique flavors that contrast with the typical Nepali taste, as well as the peaceful ambiance of this sacred place. Some popular foods to try in Bouddhanath include Laphing, Khapse, Thukpa, Thentuk, and Shaphaly.

In Bhaktapur, you must try the delicious Juju Dhau, also known as King Curd. Unlike curds found elsewhere, Juju Dhau has a unique taste that cannot be replicated. If you haven’t tasted this thick, creamy, sweet, and soft treat in Bhaktapur, you’re missing out! It’s affordable, readily available, and incredibly delicious.

Includes: Breakfast, Private Transport, an English-speaking guide, and an overnight accommodation at the Yatri Suites & Spa or a similar Hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 5Local Food Touring and Departure

Today we will visit different bakeries and sweets shops. We will try lassi at Indra Chowk, taste Samosas at Tiptop, and you will also get the opportunity to try other local food. Here, you can also buy souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones.

You will taste different desserts, a huge range of sticky sweets, mostly milk-based, of which the most visible are Barfi (milk boiled down into a fudge), Rasbari (milk balls similar to Indian rasgulla), Lal Mohan (deep-fried milky dough balls), Kheer (rice pudding), and Jalebi (an orange figure of eight deep-fried syrupy sweets).

In the evening, our office representative will come to pick you up at the hotel to transfer you to the airport. This marks the end of the Nepal Food Tasting Tour: Taste Like a Local Tour.
Have a safe journey onward.
Includes: Breakfast, Private transport, and an English-speaking guide.
