Itinerary

DAY 1Arrival In Kathmandu

Welcome to Kathmandu, Nepal! Upon your arrival, a representative from Asian Heritage Treks & Travel will greet you at the airport, holding a sign with your name. You will then be promptly transported to your hotel. En route to the hotel, you will pass by notable landmarks, including the Pashupatinath Temple, an open cremation site, and the Narayanhiti Royal Palace Museum, as well as the Garden of Dreams, before arriving in Thamel. Your hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the tourist hub downtown. Our representative will assist you and go over your travel itinerary. You’ll also have ample time to explore the charming streets of Thamel.

DAY 2Sightseeing In Kathmandu: Kathmandu Durbar Square - Swyambhunath Stupa - Pashupatinath Temple - Boudhanath Stupa

After breakfast, your tour guide and driver will pick you up to explore the city of Kathmandu. Your first destination will be Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site adorned with beautiful wood-carved temples and historic buildings. Next, you’ll head to Swyambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, to enjoy panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Following that, you’ll visit the Pashupatinath Temple, a significant pilgrimage site in Southeast Asia for Hindus. Here, you can witness the Hindu cremation rituals and explore the nearby Guweyswori Temple. Finally, you’ll explore Boudhanath Stupa, another UNESCO site, which is the world’s unique Buddhist stupa constructed in 600 A.D. After the tour, return to your hotel for some well-deserved rest.

DAY 3Sightseeing In Patan And Bhaktapur.

In the early morning, our tour guide will pick you up from the hotel. To start, we will visit Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can observe typical wood-carved temples and buildings. Following that, we can head towards Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the last of the three Durbar Squares we will be exploring during our tour. There, we will also visit a 5-storied temple and Dattatreya Mandir. Afterward, we will go sightseeing at the Changu Narayan Temple, which is the oldest temple in Nepal and a renowned pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. Once we’ve explored the surroundings, we will return to the hotel to enjoy some well-deserved rest.

DAY 4Fly To Lhasa (3650 m)

On the fourth day of the Nepal Tibet Highlights Tour, we take a flight to Lhasa. Upon our arrival, our Tibet agent will greet you at Lhasa Gonggar Airport (LXA). From there, you will be privately transported to your hotel. Lhasa is located on the north bank of the Kyi-chu River, which translates to “Place of the Gods” in Tibet. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing to the higher altitude.

DAY 5Visit Drepung Monastery & Sera Monastery

After breakfast, we will drive to Drepung Monastery, which is located 8 Km west of Lhasa. It is said to be the largest monastery in the world, housing over 10,000 monks. Drepung in Tibetan means ‘Richmond.’ Our next stop will be the Sera Monastery, known for its golden roofs and whitewashed walls. Founded in the fifteenth century, it remains well-preserved to this day and is situated just a few miles north of Lhasa at the foot of Tatipu Hill in the northern suburb of Lhasa City. This monastery is home to several hundred monks.

There’s also a restored monastery below the brow of the hill where Tsongkhapa’s legacy lives. This site is famous for the debating activities that occur between 3 to 4 pm as part of the daily routine.

DAY 6Lhasa Sightseeing

Today, you’ll explore the heart of Old Lhasa with a visit to the revered Jokhang Temple, home to Tibet’s prized golden Shakyamuni Buddha. This sacred site is a hub of spiritual devotion and a must-see for Tibetan pilgrims. Nearby, you’ll find the Barkhor Marketplace, a bustling center for both religious and social activities, offering an opportunity for some Tibetan shopping in the lively city center.

Barkhor Street, adorned with hand-polished stone boards, provides a glimpse into the authentic charm of this ancient city. Later, we’ll head to the iconic Potala Palace, perched atop a solitary hill. This architectural marvel serves as the focal point of Lhasa, consisting of the central Red Palace and the flanking White Palace.

DAY 7Drive From Lhasa To Shigatse (3900 m) Travel Duration: 5 To 6 Hours

In the morning, after breakfast, we will drive from Lhasa to Shigatse. First, we’ll pass over the Gampala pass (4790 m) to catch a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso Lake (4400 m). This stunning lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers breathtaking views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7191 m), the highest peak near Lhasa.
Further along the route, we’ll come across the Korola Glacier by the roadside. At Manak Dam Lake, you can hang prayer flags. Then, our journey will take us to Gyantse. Historically, Gyantse held the distinction of being Tibet’s third-largest city, following Lhasa and Shigatse. While in Gyantse, we’ll explore the renowned Pelkor Monastery and GyantseKumbum, as well as take in the panoramic vista of Gyangtse Fortress from a distance. Afterward, we’ll proceed to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet.

DAY 8Shigatse to Lhasa

After having your breakfast you explore the residence of the Panchen Lama, Tashilhunpho Monastery, which is also the largest monastery in Shigatse. This expansive monastery occupies the hillside, housing the world’s largest statue of Maitreya Buddha, serving as the spiritual heart of Shigatse. You can see monks, wearing yellow hats and red robes, walking through the temple. If you are lucky, you will also see a Dharma ceremony held in the temple. Then, you will journey back to Lhasa along the crossing over Karola (5,010m), Kambala (4,749m), Colourful Yamdrok- Tso Lake and the Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo), revered as the Mother River of Tibetans.

DAY 9Lhasa To Kathmandu

Today is your final day in Lhasa after having your breakfast according to your flight schedule you will transfer to Lhasa airport and say goodbye to the Tibetian guide. Then take a flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu. It will be an hour’s flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu. The flight is mesmerizing as the bird’s eye views of the Tibetan plateau seem to fade away; the green hills and snow-covered mountains will come into view. The major highlight for today is the views of the tallest mountain, Everest, from your flight.
Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu airport, complete your customs and head to the terminal, Asian Heritage Treks & Travel representative will be there to greet you. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Thamel and have a good rest.

DAY 10Drive to Pokhara (Driving Duration: 6/7 Hours)

After having your breakfast we will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. The journey takes approximately 6/7 hours, depending on the road conditions. On the way, you can enjoy the greenery around you and the beautiful hills. What attracts most visitors to Pokhara is the richness of the valley with its pure and natural beauty. Just imagine the joy of observing the majestic Himalayas, reflecting its shadow on Fewa Lake and the cleanness of Pokhara city. When you reach Pokhara make a hotel check in and take a rest.

DAY 11Sarangkot Visit and Pokhara Explore

Start your day early with a mesmerizing sunrise view from the Sarangkot, just a short drive from Pokhara. Wake up before dawn and make your way to the viewpoint for a breathtaking view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges as the sun paints the sky with vibrant hues. After capturing the perfect sunrise shots, return to the Pokhara Hotel for breakfast. After taking some time to rest embark on a city tour to explore Pokhara’s cultural and natural wonders. Visit the serene Phewa Lake, temples like Gupteshwor Mahadev and David’s Fall, explore the intriguing International Mountain Museum to learn about the Himalayan expeditions, and wander through the colorful streets of Lakeside, where you can shop for souvenirs and savor the delicious local cuisine. Wrap up your day by watching the sunset over the tranquil Phewa Lake from World Peace Stupa before heading back to your accommodation, making the most of your day in this picturesque Nepalese city.

DAY 12 Drive To Lumbini, Driving Duration: 6/7 Hours

Today, we will take you to Lumbini, where you can explore the sacred garden featuring the Mayadevi temple, depicting the birth of Lord Buddha. You’ll have the opportunity to witness the Ashoka pillar, marking the exact birthplace of Buddha, and also visit the Sakyan Tank, where it is believed that Mayadevi, Buddha’s mother, took a dip before giving birth. Throughout the area, you’ll find numerous remnants of monasteries and Chaityas constructed over the centuries.

DAY 13Lumbini Sightseeing And Chitwan Drive

Today, we’ll begin our day with an early morning visit to Lumbini. During this excursion, you’ll have the opportunity to explore various attractions, including the German Monastery, Chinese Monastery, Thai Monastery, International nuns, and the Golden Temple. Lumbini’s Peaceful Monastic Zone actively promotes the teachings of Lord Buddha, offering insights into different cultures across its various monastic zones. Following your sightseeing adventure, we’ll proceed with our journey to Chitwan, where you’ll arrive in the early evening and complete your check-in at the hotel.

DAY 14Chitwan Activities

Today, we will start our exploration by taking a walk around the Chitwan jungle. Following that, we’ll embark on a thrilling adventure deep into the forest using a local jeep to track the tiger’s footprints. Be prepared for an exciting encounter with the one-horned rhino, Asian elephant, Spotted Deer (Chital), Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Samber, Swamp Deer, Black Buck, Bull, Wild Boar, Wild Dog, Leopard, and numerous other fascinating wildlife species. After our exhilarating jungle safari, we will transition to a peaceful canoe trip along the Rapti River, where you’ll have the chance to observe a wide variety of birds while enjoying your canoe ride.

DAY 15Chitwan – Kathmandu Drive Duration: 6-7 Hours

Alternatively, you can relax at the hotel and prepare your belongings since this is your last day before your departure tomorrow. This concludes the Nepal Tibet Highlights Tour.

DAY 16Departure

Your trip will come to an end today. First, you will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements. Then, we shall transfer you to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. You will reach the airport 3 hours before your flight schedule.
