Pikey Peak Trek is an easy short trekking trail of the lower Everest region. It is a newly opened trekking route with great views of the eastern Himalayan Mountains. Pikey Peak is one of the famous viewing points to see the panoramic views of Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga, Makalu and Lhotse. It is an ideal option for the short-time trekkers. The beautiful landscapes and comfortable trekking route make Pikey Peak trekking very unique. From this vantage point, one can see the best sunrise and sunset panoramic views within the deep green valleys. At present, Pikey Peak is one of the most popular short-tour destinations in Nepal among tourists within 5 days of easy trekking. Pikey Peak is a seasonal snowy hill where local Sherpa people go for short hiking trips and to hang the prayer flag on the top.                                                                                                                   

The Pikey, named after the name of the local Sherpa deity, represents the sky over nature. During the monsoon period, in June or July, local Sherpa people worship their clan god and perform the ceremony of the Buddhist Lama and a group of monks. You get to learn a lot about Sherpa culture and tradition. The trail also takes you across other communities like Tamang, Rai, Chhetri, etc. Likewise, stupas, prayer wheels, and prayer flags are on the way. The overall journey is awe-inspiring and offers a lifetime experience.

Itinerary

Day 1Drive from Kathmandu to Jhapre (2920m) (driving duration: 8-9 hours)

In the early morning, our guide will pick you up from your hotel and then start the day with a long drive from Kathmandu to Jhapre. The road follows the Sun Koshi River, which then merges with the Tama Koshi River to form another Koshi River until reaching Ghurmi. You will pass some settlements and Bazzar till reach the Jhapre (2920m). There’s a small gompa and stupa you can explore and observe and this is your last stop for the night.

Day 2Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp (3640m), (hiking duration 5/6-hours)

Enjoy the sunrise view from Jhapre as the first golden rays of the sun fall on the snow-capped mountains. Continuing our trek along the trail, you reached Bhulbule. Subsequently, the trail becomes steep, climbing through rhododendron forests and small settlement areas of Lhamuje. As we cross Lhamuje, the trails open out to yak-grazing pasture and then lead to a long Mani wall. Following this, a climb along the winding road takes us to Pikey Base Camp. Here, you can visit the Yak Cheese Factory and relish the magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayas.

Day 3Sunrise view in pikey peak and trek to Junbesi (hiking duration 8/9-hours)

In the early morning, hike to Pikey Peak to enjoy the glorious sunrise over the Himalayas, such as
Mt. Everest (8848m), Numbur Chuli (6958m), Thamserku (6608m), Kanchenjunga (8586 m), Makalu (8485m), Ghaurisankar (7134m) and so on. After enjoying the view, return to Pikey Peak Base Camp. From there, you will continue walk down on the way the trails meet the Everest Base camp trail coming from Jiri at Taktor. Continue your walk for some hours and reach Junbesi. It is the traditional village of Sherpas. You will see Buddhist monasteries, Sherpa culture and architecture.

Day 4Junbesi exploration

Junbeshi is a beautiful village located at the junction of the Everest trail and the trail to Thuptenchholing monastery. The splendid view of Mount Numbur in the background matches the pleasant environment of the village is an ideal place to relax. The presence of the famous monastery, Thuptenchholing Monastery, has made this village the most important Sherpa village in the country. Due to its remoteness and increasing population, the 800 resident monks and nuns live here with limited resources.

Day 5Drive from Junbesi to Kathmandu

You will drive from Junbesi to Kathmandu On the way, pass through the prayer flags and prayer wheels with carved mantra stone walls. You can see the beautiful hills and slopes and The road follows the Madhya Pahadi high way.
