The Shivapuri National Park package combines two of Nepal’s most fascinating Buddhist and Hindu religious sites on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, which takes about 5 to 6 hours to hike. Travel to Budhanilkantha, the start of your hiking point, where you’ll visit the sacred site of the sleeping Hindu deity Vishnu, followed by hiking through the forest of Shivapuri National Park to Nagi Gompa. This Buddhist monastery sits astride a majestic hilltop location, offering magnificent views of Kathmandu Valley.
In the early morning, after breakfast, our vehicle will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the Budhanilkantha Temple. Visit and pay homage to the sleeping Lord Vishnu from the outer periphery of the complex’s pond, a visual trick that makes the god appear to float above the water’s surface while your guide explains the background of this unique Hindu figure.
Then start your hike to the Shivapuri National Park army post, where you’ll register before spending the next 2.5 hours strolling through the gorgeous woods, heading to the Buddhist monastery at Nagi Gompa. Along the way, enjoy the lush green forest, Himalayan ranges, and Kathmandu Valley views. On arriving at Nagi Gumba, take a rest and visit the Gumba. This area has earned a reputation as a great spot for bird watching, so keep your eyes peeled as you proceed.
Afterward, leaving Nagi Gumba, you’ll proceed to descend and pass some beautiful waterfalls as you head back into the area of Sundarijal, where you’ll have time to explore the local market. Later, hop on the vehicle and enjoy the view along the road as we make our way back to Kathmandu.
