The Three Passes Everest trek offers unparalleled views throughout the Everest region, combining three renowned passes: Renjo La Pass, Chola Pass, and Kongma La Pass. Considered one of Nepal’s most challenging treks, it crosses three passes over 5,000 meters, showcasing spectacular scenery and making it one of the best trekking destinations in the Everest Region.

Kongma La Pass (5,535 meters/18,159 feet): The first pass rewards trekkers with panoramic views of the Everest massif, Lhotse, and Makalu amidst towering peaks and glaciers.

Cho La Pass (5,420 meters/17,782 feet): The dramatic beauty of Cho La Pass includes navigating a glacial path and descending into the Gokyo Valley, surrounded by pristine glacial lakes and stunning mountain scenery.

Renjo La Pass (5,360 meters/17,585 feet): Renjo La Pass offers a unique perspective of Everest and neighboring peaks, with remote and less-trodden paths leading to breathtaking views of Everest, Cho Oyu, and more.

Highlights include trekking across three passes over 5,000 meters, a scenic flight to Lukla, magnificent mountain views, exploration of Namche Bazaar, close-up views of Mt. Everest from Kalapatthar, and encounters with Sherpa culture. The best time for the trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) for mild weather and clear mountain views.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Welcome! To Kathmandu Nepal. Asian Heritage Treks & Travel Representative welcomes you at the Airport with your nameplate.  After Arrival at Nepal airport transfer you to the hotel. On the way Airport to the Hotel, you will pass by the Open cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple), the Royal Palace Museum i.e. Narayanhity, Garden Of Dream, and reach the Thamel. Your hotel will be downtown at Touristic Hub. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.

Day 2Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Your tour begins with our guide and private vehicle, starting at the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kathmandu Durbar Square. Here, you’ll marvel at ancient wood-carved temples and structures, immersing yourself in the history of Kathmandu. Next, we’ll head to Swyambhunath, the monkey temple, where Buddhist and Hindu cultures harmoniously coexist. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Kathmandu and the Himalayas. Your journey continues to Pashupatinath Temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site in Southeast Asia. Witness the sacred cremation rituals along the Bagmati River and explore the temple’s surroundings. Then, we’ll visit another UNESCO site, Boudhanath Stupa, a unique symbol of Buddhism dating back to 600 A.D. Explore the area’s rich cultural heritage. After this enriching experience, return to your hotel for some well-deserved rest.

Day 3Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Phakding (2,860 m) (40-minute flight), (3-4-hour hike)

Fly to Lukla from Kathmandu Airport. From Lukla, we commence to climb up towards Phakding. The trail runs along the Dudh Koshi (Milk River). You will be trekking amidst rhododendron forests while smelling the strong aroma of evergreen oak. Along the way, you will pass by many villages until you reach Phakding.

Day 4Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,480 m) (5-6-hour hike)

The Everest trail begins with ease but progressively toughens. Crossing Dudh Koshi, you glimpse Everest. The path leads to Monjo for lunch, but it gets steeper ahead, with increasing altitude as you head to Namche, causing breathlessness. Slow, steady pacing is essential. Namche Bazaar is your night stop, a bustling hub where Solukhumbu locals gather for trade. Here, you find shops, eateries, hotels, a bank, and internet services for connecting with loved ones. Namche Bazaar provides insight into regional survival tactics amidst Everest’s grandeur.

Day 5Rest Day at Namche Bazaar

On the fifth day of the Three Passes Everest trek, you can use your time to acclimatize, relax and explore the surrounding places. Most of the trekkers prefer to get up before sunrise to view the magnificent views of Mount Everest, Thamserku, Amadablam, and other glorious peaks from the Sagarmatha National Park. One can get a chance to observe the shadow of the Giant Himalayas being projected onto the clouds above and truly appreciate their magnitude. As an energy supplier, one should try salt-butter tea and Champa – a kind of barley often consumed by the Sherpas in the region. The lively cultural Saturday market is worth a visit and is usually full of traders who are trying to desperately sell their products.

Day 6Namche to Tengboche Monastery (4-5-hour hike)

On the sixth day of your Everest Base Camp trek, you’ll make your way from the village of Namche Bazaar to Tengboche. Although it will be one of the most challenging days of the trek in terms of elevation gain (around 3,900 meters or 12,795 feet), it will also be the most rewarding as you get to take in the breathtaking views of the Everest Mountain Range.

Day 7Tengboche to Dingboche (6-7-hour hike)

You will head from Tengboche to Dingboche. It will be an absolutely beautiful day as you make your way through the valley, with the glacier river down below and the snow-capped peaks out in the distance. Along the trek, you will pass by the village of Pangboche as well as the famous mountain of Ama Dablam, surely making this a memorable day of your Nepal hiking experience.

Day 8Dingboche to Chhukung Village (4,730 m) (Hiking duration 4-5 hours)

After Breakfast, as soon as you start to walk, you will see the amazing mountain scenery that you didn’t expect. You will climb up Chhukung Ri, 5,550 m. Here, the reward will be valued above our effort as we find ourselves with access to beautiful peaks. The Breathtaking views of Choyu 8,201 m, Pumori 7,161 m, the Lhotse Wall 8,400 m, Lhotse 8,500 m, Amadablam 6,856m, Makalu 8,481 m, and Baruntse 7,129 m will surprise us and prepare us well for what’s ahead.

Day 9Chhukung to Lobuche via Kongma La Pass (4,900 m) (Hiking duration 8-9 hours

Today, you need to walk quite a bit longer than earlier times. We will cross the first pas called Kongma La (5400m). Then we will start our trail climbing up to the Niyang Khola Valley. A long screen descent brings us to the edge of the world’s famous Khumbu Glacier; the walk will gradually get easier as we cross it. After some time, you will reach Lobuche which is where today’s walking ends.

Day 10Lobuche to Gorakshep (Hiking duration 4-5 hours)

At that altitude, the trail to Gorakshep might seem a bit barren due to the climate. Expect to trek through snow-covered paths. Once at Gorakshep, take a moment to rest and soak in the incredible panoramic views of Mt. Everest and its neighbouring peaks. If you’re up for it, consider visiting Kala Patthar for a breathtaking sunset view over the Himalayas later in the day.

Day 11Visit Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and Return to Lobuche (Hiking duration 5-6 hours)

Next up is Kala Patthar (Kala means black and Patthar means rock), towering at 5,450m, followed by a visit to Everest Base Camp. Get ready for an awe-inspiring sight—the majestic Mount Everest and the breathtaking Khumbu Glacier Valley. After the exciting trek, it’s time to head back down to Gorakshep for a well-deserved meal and, hopefully, a cozy night’s sleep.

Day 12Lobuche to Dzongla (4,830 m) (7-8-hour hike)

Today, you trek down to Dzongla through the winding trail which takes about 7 to 8 hours. Dzongla is a small settlement below the Cho La pass. On the way to Dzongla, you’ll also enjoy the scenic Cho La Lake along with the greatest views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mera Peak, and many more.

Day 13Dzongla to Dragnag via Cho La Pass (4,700 m/5,368 m) (7-8-hour hike)

Our journey heads towards the Cho La Pass (5368m) which is very vertical and a tough climb that will take around 3 hours over a rocky ridge before you reach the top of the pass. At the top, you will be feeling very lucky and get to see the unbelievable scenic beauty of Amadablam, Thamserku, Taboche, Baruntse, and nearby located Cholatse. After crossing the Cho La pass we hike over the glacier across the snow and ice for about an hour. After lunch, we rest for some time and walk down for around 3 hours through the rocky path to Dragnag.

Day 14Dragnag to Gokyo (4,790 m) (7-8-hour hike)

After Breakfast, we start walking a trail for 1.5 hours which first leads uphill before becoming an easy walk for a while. You will get to see the breathtaking views of Gokyo Lake and its surroundings. After some rest at the lodge in Gokyo, a short climb to the ridge is needed from where you can explore the amazing view of the Glacier with its small glacier lakes.

Day 15Rest Day in Gokyo

Today, you will enjoy the best day of the entire trail! Although it is called a rest day you will enjoy the surroundings of Gokyo. You can hike to Gokyo Ri located at 5,360 m which is a hill on the north side of the DudhPokhari, this takes around 2 to 3 hours. From the summit, you can have an overview of Choyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, Taboche, and the Ngozumpa Glacier. Another option to spend the day can be to hike up the Gokyo Valley and pass two or three more glacial lakes towards Choyu.

Day 16Gokyo to Renjo La Pass and Lungden (5,415 m/4,380 m), (4-5-hour hike)

Today we start early, heading up for the upper trail west of Gokyo Lake towards Renjo La pass (5,415 m). After climbing a steep sandy ridge for about 3 hours, we will reach the top of Renjo La where you have fabulous views of above 7000 and 8000 m high peaks of Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taboche. Continuing the pass we will head through the pathway of stone stairs which leads to the south bank of a small serene lake, The Angladumba Tsho. After another 4 hours walk, we reach Lungdun (4,380 m).

Day 17Lungden to Namche Bazzar (3,440 m), (4-5-hour hike)

After Breakfast, your day starts with walking downhill through the Rhododendron forest. Once you get to the bottom of the hill, you cross the suspension bridge and a steep climb through the pine and Juniper forest leads you to Khumjung. After some rest, you can explore Khumjung village. The walk continues after lunch towards Namche Bazaar.

Day 18Namche Bazzar to Lukla (2,800m), (6-7-hour hike)

Last trekking day of your Three Passes Everest Trek! After having breakfast in a teahouse at Namche Bazaar, we will begin our trek to Lukla. Lunch will be served on the way. After we reach Lukla, you will have time to get refreshed and relax. You can spend the time remembering the journey you have covered during the past few days and share your experience with other trekkers.

Day 19Lukla to Kathmandu

After Breakfast, you have a flight back to Kathmandu. According to weather conditions, there might be some fluctuation in the flight time. When the flight lands at Kathmandu Airport, our representative will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel by a private vehicle.

Day 20Sightseeing in Bhaktapur, Patan and Kirtipur

Today our guide will pick you up and drive you to Bhaktapur and visit UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Explore the surroundings and afterward visit the Nyatapola Temple, one of the biggest temples in Nepal. You will visit Pottery Square. Here, you can also take the pottery-making class using traditional methods. You will be taught to design your pot and once you have your basic shape hammered out, you can even choose to adorn your creation with beautiful patterns and inscriptions.

Afterward, you’ll be driven to one of the ancient cities inside Kathmandu Valley i.e. Patan Durbar Square for sightseeing. In Patan, you will be visiting other UNESCO World Heritage sites: Krishna Temple and Patan Durbar Square. Later on, visit the Patan Museum, where you can learn more about the history of Patan and the kings who reigned here. Later, visit the Golden Temple, a major attraction for both Hindu and Buddhist people, and Banglamukhi Temple.  Then, you will visit Kirtipur a historical town of the Newar community which is famous for preserving its architecture and culture including the beauty of nature. In Kirtipur, you’ll do a quick visit to sightseeing sites such as Bagh Bhairav temple, Chilancho Stupa, Uma Maheshwar, etc. This marks the end of your Three Passes Everest trek.

Day 21Departure

Our representative will pick you up and drive you to Kathmandu. You will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements and transfer to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport by our private van around 3 hours before your flight schedule and flight back to your home/other travel destination.
