Bigu Kalinchowk Trek is extremely rich in culture and tradition and is located in the central part of Nepal. The place is unspoiled and the people are virtually unknown outside of their region. The land and the living style of people look like Tibetan places and the place reflects the view of snow ridges, rivers, and lakes. During the Bigu Kalinchowk trek, you also see many female monks (nuns) in the Bigu Gompa which is renowned for meditations and you will also visit the Kalinchowk temple (a female god and reincarnation of Goddess Kali) that is honored by Hindus all over Nepal.

Itinerary

DAY 1 Kathmandu To Charikot (1980 m), Driving Duration: 6 Hours

After having breakfast, your day will begin with a drive to Charikot along the Araniko highway. You can see the scenic beauty of Nepali villages and lovely views of the surrounding mountains. Lunch will be somewhere along the way. The highway to Jiri is famous for the environmentally friendly approach adopted during its design, construction, and maintenance. As you reach Charikot, you can see spectacular Mountain Views of Gaurishankar and other ranges.

DAY 2 Charikot To Yak Kharka (2600 m), Hiking Duration: 5-6 Hours

After having an early breakfast you will start your trek with an easy hike through rhododendron and oak forest. You will also see many different kinds of floras along the way. We will stop for lunch and then continue along the trail to Yak Kharka, where we will stay overnight. There is no village but a small shepherd and Yak houses in Yak Kharka.

DAY 3 Yak Kharka To Kalinchowk Phedi (3330 m)

After having Breakfast in Yak Kharka, you will be moving ahead along the trail through the rhododendron forest. A quick lunch stop will be made on the way, before ascending through the treeless landscape. As you climb, you will have a great view of the Gaurishankar Mountain and Langtang range. The trail that follows to Phedi is used by many Tibetan and Nepali people to travel across the Nation.

DAY 4 Rest Day In Kalinchowk Phedi

Today is your rest day in KalinchowkPhedi to enjoy the local sightseeing as well as to see the sunrise. You can start the day by catching the sunrise over the mountain in the morning. After breakfast, you can have a small hike and visit the famous Kalinchowk temple. There is also a Tibetan market on the other side of the valley. You can also find different plant life as well.

DAY 5Kalinchowk Phedi To Charikot (1980 m)

After having Breakfast in Kalinchowk Phedi, you will descend the same way back to Charikot and stay overnight.

DAY 6Charikot To Gum Khola (920 m)

After having Breakfast, You will follow the trail which leads you down to the river, passing through many local villages. You will stop to have lunch on the way, then trek through a Sal forest and onto Gum Khola and pause your trek until the next day.

DAY 7 Gum Khola To Chilinkha (1930 m)

After breakfast you will resume trekking, passing many more villages. As you climb uphill you will experience places where people still follow the caste system and there is still discrimination against the lower caste people. Heading up the valley leads you to the rich village of Chilinkha where you will stay overnight.

DAY 8 Chilinkha To Bigu Gompa (2330 m) - Trekking Time: 4-5 Hours

Today, the trail continues through more villages. It is amazing to see the culture, tradition, and way of life of local people. We will stop for lunch before heading along to Bigu Gompa. After lunch, we will continue our trek to Bigu Gompa.

DAY 9 Rest Day In Bigu Gompa

Today is your acclimatization day in Bigu Gompa. You can take time to stroll around the village and the local community. You will also visit the beautiful Buddhist monastery; BiguGompa which is a famous Buddhist school, especially for the Nuns.

DAY 10 Bigugompa To Dolansa (2510 m)

Starting the trek earlier, we will cross the Tingnasa pass. You must make your mind up and prepare yourself for a decrease in temperature and an increase in altitude. As you cross the pass you will see the beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains. From the pass, we will descend down and enter the village of Dolansa.

DAY 11 Dolansa To Barhabise To Kathmandu - Trekking Time: 4-5 Hours

Today is the last day of your trekking. You will have your breakfast in Dolansa and start trekking until you reach the village of Barhabise. Lunch will be in Bahrabise. From Bahrabise, You will drive back to Kathmandu and your Bigu Kalinchowk trek is concluded.
