The Eastern Nepal and Nepal Highlights Tour is a 17-day journey offering an immersive experience of Nepal’s diverse culture and natural beauty. Starting in Kathmandu, you’ll explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites and soak in the city’s rich history. Highlights include visiting the historic Halesi Mahadev Temple and Janakpur, the birthplace of Sita. Trekking through Ilam’s lush green hills and exploring wildlife in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve and Chitwan National Park are also included. The tour culminates in Pokhara, where you’ll enjoy scenic views and cultural experiences, including a Sarangkot sunrise and city sightseeing.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m/4,593ft)

Welcome! To Kathmandu, Nepal.
Asian Heritage Treks & Travel Representative welcomes you at the Airport along with your nameplate. After Arrival at Nepal airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. On the way Airport to Hotel, you will pass by the Open cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple), the Royal Palace Museum, i.e., Narayanhity, Garden Of Dream, and reach the Thamel. Your hotel will be downtown at Touristic Hub. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.

Day 2Full Day Sightseeing in Kathmandu (1,400m/4,593ft)

Our tour guide will come to pick you up along with the private vehicle. Firstly you will be visiting the UNESCO world heritage site, Kathmandu Durbar Square, where you can observe the typical wood-carved temples and buildings reflecting the ancient Kathmandu city, and then you will be heading towards Swyambhunath- the monkey temple where you can observe the religious harmony and tolerance between the Buddhist religion and Hindu religion along with that enjoy the panoramic view of Kathmandu city, and the Himalaya ranges from here.

After that, you will be visiting the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the biggest pilgrimage sites for the Hindu religion people in south-east Asia, explore the surroundings and you can observe the ritual body cremating ceremony process of the Hindu people at the bank of the holy Bagmati river and explore the surroundings. Then you will go to visit another UNESCO world heritage site Boudhanath Stupa. It was built in 600A.D. and is the only kind of stupa reflecting Buddhism in the world. Explore the surroundings of Boudhanath Stupa, and after completing your sightseeing, get back to the hotel and rest.

Day 3Drive from Kathmandu to Halesi Mahadev Temple (3,100m/10,171ft), distance: 220km, (8-hour drive)

After breakfast, you will start your journey towards the Haleshi Mahadev Temple, which is located in the Khotang district of Nepal. You will drive for approximately 8 hours, passing through beautiful countryside and small villages on the way. Finally, after several hours of travel, you’ll arrive at Halesi Mahadev Temple. The temple is one of the most sacred sites in Nepal and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.

Day 4Visit Halesi Temple and Drive to Janakpur (74m/243ft), distance: 215km, (6-7-hour drive)

Visiting the Halesi Mahadev Temple is a unique and spiritual experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression on any visitor. After several hours of travel, you’ll arrive in Janakpur, a city that is steeped in history and religious significance. Janakpur is home to the Janaki Mandir, a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Sita, who is believed to have been born in the city. The temple is one of the most revered sites in Nepal and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. In addition to the Janaki Mandir, Janakpur is also home to several other important temples and historical landmarks. The city is known for its rich cultural heritage and is an excellent place to explore Nepali culture and history.

Day 5Janakpur to Bhedetar (1,420m/4,659ft), distance: 215km, (4-5-hour drive)

Today, we will drive to Bhedetar, which is a popular hill station located in eastern Nepal and is known for its stunning views of the Himalayan range. As you approach Bhedetar, the road becomes steeper and more winding, and you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayan range. Bhedetar is located at an altitude of around 1,400 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Day 6Bhedetar to Fikkal (1,468m/4,816ft), disatance: 165km (4-5-hour drive)

Today we will drive to Fikkal. Fikkal is a small town located in the foothills of the Himalayas in eastern Nepal and is known for its tea gardens and natural beauty. Fikkal is located at an altitude of around 1,468meters and offers stunning views of the nearby tea gardens and the Himalayan range in the distance.

Day 7Fikkal to Ilam (800m/2,625ft) and Sightseeing, distance: 40km, (1-2-hour drive)

The road from Fikkal to Ilam winds through some of the most stunning landscapes in eastern Nepal, with tea gardens stretching as far as the eye can see and towering mountains in the distance. Finally, as you approach Ilam, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the town and its surroundings. Ilam is known for its charming architecture, vibrant bazaars, and picturesque tea gardens and is a popular destination for travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and reconnect with nature.

Day 8Ilam to Koshi Tappu Wildlife National Park (81m/266ft), distance: 160km, (5-6-hour drive)

After breakfast at the hotel in Ilam, we will drive towards Koshi Tappu Wildlife National Park, one of the finest bird watching and wildlife reserves in Asia. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours through the lush green hills, small villages and terraced farms.

Once we reach Koshi Tappu, we will check-in at the lodge and take some rest. Later in the evening, we will take a walk to the nearby villages, interacting with the local people, their culture and lifestyle. We will return to the lodge by sunset.

Day 9Wildlife Activities in Koshi Tappu (81m/266ft)

Today is a full day dedicated to the wildlife activities inside the Koshi Tappu Wildlife National Park. We will take a jeep ride through the park to spot the various wildlife such as Wild Water Buffalo, Asiatic Elephant, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, and many more.

Accommodation: Overnight in available local lodge.

Day 10Koshi Tappu to Chitwan (415m/1,362ft), distance: 390km, (8-9-hour drive)

After breakfast at the lodge, we will drive towards Chitwan, a beautiful city located in the southern part of Nepal. The drive takes approximately 8-9  hours through the beautiful countryside, passing by small towns and farms.

Once we reach Chitwan, we will check in to the hotel and take some rest. Later in the evening, we will enjoy the cultural program showcasing the traditional dances and music of the Tharu community, followed by dinner.

Day 11Activities in Chitwan (415m/1,362ft)

Today is a full day dedicated to wildlife activities inside the Chitwan National Park. We will wake up early in the morning and take a canoe ride in Rapti River, watching the water birds and the mugger crocodiles.

After the canoe ride, we will take a jungle walk, guided by the naturalist, to spot the various wildlife such as One-horned Rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Sloth Bear, and many more. We will also visit the Elephant breeding center and learn about the lifestyle and care of the elephants.

After lunch, we will take a jeep safari to explore the inner parts of the jungle, spotting the wildlife from a closer distance.

Chitwan National Park

Day 12Chitwan to Lumbini (150m/492ft) and Sightseeing in Lumbini, distance: 165km, (4-5-hour drive)

In the morning, we will have a bird watching and after breakfast at the hotel, we will drive towards Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The drive takes approximately 4-5 hours, passing by small towns, farms, and hills.

Once we reach Lumbini, we will check in at the hotel and take some rest. Later in the afternoon, we will visit the Sacred Garden, Maya Devi Temple, and the Ashoka Pillar, the historical landmarks of Buddhism.

Day 13Lumbini to Pokhara (822m/2,697ft), distance: 210km, (7-8-hours drive)

After breakfast, we will leave for Pokhara, which is about 7-8 hours drive from Lumbini. Upon arrival, we will check in at the hotel and have some rest. In the evening, we can take a leisurely stroll around the famous Phewa Lake and enjoy the stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range.

Pokhara

Day 14Early Morning Drive Sarangkot and Full Day Sightseeing

We will start the day early with a trip to Sarangkot, a hilltop village that offers panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. We will enjoy the stunning sunrise views over the mountains and then head back to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, we will take a full-day sightseeing tour of Pokhara, which will include visits to the famous Davi’s Falls, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, and the International Mountain Museum. We will also take a boat ride on Phewa Lake and visit the famous Tal Barahi Temple, located on an island in the middle of the lake.

Day 15Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,400m/4,593ft), distance: 220km (7-8-hour drive)

After breakfast, we will leave for Kathmandu, which is about a 7-8-hour drive from Pokhara. Upon arrival, we will check in at the hotel and have some rest. In the evening, we can take a stroll around the bustling streets of Thamel and do some souvenir shopping.

Day 16Free Day in Kathmandu (1,400m/4,593ft)

Today is a free day for you in Kathmandu. You can spend your day on your personal activities. You can have enough rest, or if you’re interested, then you can go to stroll around the streets of Thamel, or you can go shopping for souvenirs for your friends and family.

Day 17Departure

Your trip will come to an end today. You will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements and transfer to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport by our private van around 3 hours before your flight schedule and flight back to your home/other travel destination. Have a safe journey onwards.
