Just an hour’s drive north of Kathmandu lays the Helambu region, the nearest popular trekking destination from the Nepalese capital. The region provides a spectacular view of the mountains whilst the climate is favorable compared to other trekking destinations in the country. The Helambu trek is perfect for people who wish to experience trekking in a moderate climate and low altitude while still being amazed by the mountains and their views. Located just 80 km from Kathmandu it is easily accessible for tourists. Cultures that can be found in this era are Tamang and Sherpa and it is the home of the “Hyolmo” people. It is the name of this tribe, Hyolmo, from where the current name, Helambu, comes. The Helambu trek begins from Sundarijal/Chisapani, crossing Kutumsang, Therepati, Tarkeghyang, and Sermathang before finally descending to the Melamchi Bazaar.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival In Kathmandu (1400 M)

Welcome! To Kathmandu Nepal. Asian Heritage Treks & Travel Representative welcomes you at the Airport with your nameplate. After Arrival at Nepal airport, transfer you to the hotel. On the way Airport to the Hotel, you will pass by the (Pashupatinath temple), Royal Palace Museum i.e. Narayanhity, Garden Of Dream, and reach the Thamel. Your hotel will be downtown at Touristic Hub. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.
Accommodation: Overnight in Yatri Suites & Spa or similar in Kathmandu.

Day 2Drive To Sundarijal & Trek To Chisapani (2300 M) Drive Duration: 1 Hour, Hiking Duration: 4 Hours

After having breakfast you will have a one-hour drive from the Hotel to Sundarijal. From Sundarijal, you will trek to beautiful Chisapani (2300 m) through Shivapuri National Park. On the way, you will pass through the Tamang settlement Mulkharka where you can rest for some time and then you will continue walking to reach Chisapani.

Day 3Trek From Chisapani To Kutumsang ( 2446 M) Hiking Duration: 7 Hours

After having breakfast, you will start trekking to Kutumsang. In the beginning, you must descend downhill and walk through the fields of the farmers. From the path, you can see magnificent views of the Langtang Mountains and the surroundings. You will walk through PathiBhanjyang and GulBhanjyang and from GulBhanjyang, you will climb the ridge to reach another pass. From the pass, you will descend downhill for some time to reach Kutumsang.

Day 4Trek From Kutumsang To Tharepati ( 3650 M) Hiking Duration: 6 Hours

Today you must climb a steep trail that goes through the forest of fir and rhododendron (which is the national flower of Nepal). By continuous walking, you will reach YurinDanda, from where you will have a magnificent view of the Himalayas. After a little more walking you will reach Tharepati.
Accommodation: Overnight in the available local lodge in Tharepati.

Day 5 Trek To Tarkeghyang ( 2560 M) Hiking Duration: 6 Hours

After having your breakfast in Tharepati, you commence your trek to reach Tarkeghyang. First, you will walk completely down to reach Melamchi Khola. Crossing the river, you will ascend up to Tarkeghyang through different Sherpa communities. As you reach Tarkeghyang, you can enjoy the village and its monastery. You can also witness the wonderful view of different Himalayan ranges. The village is more popularly known as Helambu, as there is the settlement of Helmu caste.

Day 6Trek To Sermathang (2610 M) Hiking Duration: 3 To 4 Hours

You’re walking time is less and easier than that of the other days. You will walk through different forests, streams, and waterfalls to reach Gangyul. Walking from Gangyul, we will reach Sermathang. Sermathang is a beautiful village where you can enjoy the village lifestyle and natural beauty. There is also a Buddhist monastery at the highest point of the village which you can visit since there is plenty of free time.

Day 7 Trek To Melamchi Bazaar And Drive To Kathmandu Hiking Duration: 3 To 4 Hours, Drive Duration: 2 Hours

Today is your final day of the trek; you will commence trekking down to Melamchi Bazaar. The village is inhabited by the Sherpa community and people of other castes as well. From Melamchi Bazaar, you will drive back to Kathmandu. You can rest and relax in the remaining time and you can go out of your hotel and roam around the market shopping, for example, as a token of love for your nearest and dearest ones. This marks the end of the Helambu trek.

Day 8Departure

Today is the last day of your Nepal program. After having breakfast, you will pack your luggage, get fresh and check out from the hotel. You will be transferred to the International airport to catch the flight to your onward destination.
